justine with art is a painting series developed to recapture moments my twin sister photographed of loved ones engaging with art. this project is an attempt to delve into her experiences through reproducing her gaze, or her gestures posing in front of a work of art. these photos are documents representing art institutions from barcelona, new york, toronto and montreal – showcasing various international art histories in the background with contemporary dressed figures in the foreground. 

 

this series encapsulates my interests in photography as a tool used to preserve memories, and in painting, a medium that allows for me to translate these images through a pastel-tinted lens of nostalgia. justine with art also raises questions concerning the curious role of the viewer within an artwork. can a work of art exist without a viewer?
